Customer Reviews: Good but with one fault February 22, 2010 Alberto Gemin (London, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful Out of the box this subwoofer gives a good impression, the plus points are many: - Well packaged - Nicely finished - Phase control - Crossover Frequency Control - Low and High impedance inputs - Auto On/Off The sound is rich and the extension decent, I only like to add a touch of bass, so I keep it quite low, but it extends your average bookshelf speakers very nicely. Fiddling with the cut off, phase and level takes some time until you get a good balance, but I guess the time depends on how good a ear you have. However I am disappointed in the hum of the transformer, which is audible when the system is turned off. Your usual 50 Hz hum is audible in an otherwise silent room, and mind you, it comes through the transformer itself, not through the speaker, so the unit is quite noiseless from the active sound path point of view, but, as a box, it hums. I had to add one of those switched power cords, which renders the auto on/off feature useless. The design / build quality of the box itself is of a decent standard. I wanted a good sounding box for my AV receiver that will enable me to enjoy bass sound without breaking the bank and this 'woofer does that brilliantly. The package's only shortcoming is the accompanying instructions which can be described in one word as "useless". No real operating instructions just a collection of line drawings, like an Ikea flat pack bookshelf - so lots of tweaking required to work out what the knobs do. The auto on/off switch is good and energy saving. And the box contains a subwoofer cable. Really enjoying it. I would recommend this to anyone.
