BLOODY GOOD SYSTEM! August 28, 2010 DANGERDUNK
Great bit of kit!!
Sounds amazing 5.1 sound, looks great also surround sound when using headphone!
A must buy for any music, movie lover *****
Absoloutly amazing! August 28, 2010 Matt192 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered these speakers following a se og Creative T6100's that I bought and these Logitec's just blow them away and the Creatives, I thought were amazing. I was worried they wouldnt work well with my USB sound blaster soundcard but they both compliment each other amazingly! The subwoofer delievers a high volume of distortionless bass that works extremeley well alongside the smaller RMS speakers that side it. The subwoofer its self is very punchy by which I mean, the bass is always there and you do feel it (obviously depending upon which settings its on).
The head unit or control centre itself is much larger than I expected but its very easy to use and with its light blue LED lighting Im rather impressed with its look. Each of the speakers has long lengths of wire to connect them up to the subwoofer allowing for ease of access when palcing them about a room for the true surround sound experience.
In short, Ive never heard anything that comes close the clarity that these speakers emmit. The sound is amazing! Brilliant bass, very clear sound and yes, its very, very loud

No Stand By Mode. August 17, 2010 Amazon Fan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this recently and it is a fine sounding system for PC gaming, possibly the best there is available in this price range. Games sound utterly brilliant through the optical input from my souncard. There's a real sense of being there in a game with a good 5.1 audio soundtrack.
Music is acceptable but it's hardly hifi quality - all the midrange goes to the subwoofer - so it's a bit bass heavy and muddy. Kinda what you'd expect at this price range really. Not Bad. But not brilliant.
One thing to be aware of that I didn't see mentioned anywhere before I bought it.
There is no Stand By mode on this system anymore. Since the introduction of the latest EU regulations in January 2010 all equipment has to draw less than 1 Watt in stand by mode otherwise it cannot be sold in the EU.
Logitech got around this by changing the previous stand-by button on the control unit into a headphone only function. The unit still draws around 40 Watts even in this mode apparently so the only way to not burn a lot of juice when you're not using it is to switch the thing off completely at the subwoofer or at the mains. Bit of a pain having to crawl under your desk to do this.
A replacement for the Z-5500 is rumoured to be on the way in October and this will include a proper Stand By function - apparently.
One last thing. The guy that mentions the dimensions of the subwoofer in his earlier review must have bought another system to the Z-5500.
The subwoofer included with Z-5500 I received from Amazon 2 weeks ago measures 13" high x 13" wide x 15" deep.
Absolutely Awesome! August 13, 2010 Fat Jax I bought this amazing piece of kit on Wednesday evening and it arrived here on Friday morning :) speedy delivery!
Came in a massive box which made the delivery guy look awfully tired. Opened and set up within the next half hour. Very easy to do - I didn't need to use the instructions but are easy to understand if you need them. Fired it up playing a bit of everything - classical, heavy rock, soft pop and everything thrown at it sounded crisp and lovely. The Sub, being a monster, sounds just how I wanted it to - powerful on the songs you want it to be powerful, and can be adjusted easily through the remote. There are many sound choices and all settings can be easily changed depending what the speakers are playing.
I chose the option to get the optical cable for an extra fiver and have used this for my Xbox 360. I would suggest getting the cable as it makes life a lot easier. All in all, a very VERY good buy and definitely worth the £200 which included the optical cable!! :D
