Jack of all trades - master of some. March 11, 2010 Left4Hugo (Surrey, England) Initial impressions were that this was way too loud - fortunately there are numerous setting to reduce the bass - I would advise Subwoofer Level 1, Dynamic Range Compression On, Sub Woofer -6 and Dialogue Enhancer On for the lowest output and then increase to taste.
Complaints: I had to return the first unit to Amazon as when playing DVDs the noise of the disc spinning was quite intrusive. Amazon were out of stock so I purchased a replacement from elsewhere and guess what, same problem. Some discs that play silently in my old £40 player can now be heard chuntering away in my £400 Panansonic. Luckily this problem doesnt seemt to effect Blu-Rays!
DVD Upscaling: Can look good but at other times absolutely appalling - without doubt some older material still looks better on the old DVD player. The Panasonic also automatically outputs old material to its native 4:3 resolution. There is an option to change it to widescreen but this then chops off some of the top and bottom edge - something that my old player didnt do. Blu rays and some upscaled DVDS do however look and sound stunning.
I-Pod Player - Works well - menu's a bit slow but sound quality is good - better than playing CD's whichs sound 'thinner' but not bad overall.
Ease of use: Changing setting can be a bit fiddly and this isnt a one off exercise as you will find that different sources sound better with different setiings - you get used to it though.
These are the negatives but overall believe it or not Im very happy with this purchase - the sound is excellent and picture quality generally very good. It also kills a lot of birds with one stone as you are getting a bluray / Upscaling DVD / CD player as well as an Ipod dock and enhanced sound for normal TV. I also have the Xbox rigged up to it as well - be aware though that there is only 1 HDMI input so assuming thats used for the TV anything else will have to be connected via optical lead.
Panasonice Blue Ray Cinema System February 20, 2010 J. M. Mccauley 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent piece of eqpt, I am very pleased with this purchase.
Great system - and thanks Amazon February 14, 2010 J. Cunningham (Yorkshire, UK) I bought the Panasonic system as, first, I have always rated Panasonic and secondly following reading the reviews from others. The system is as good as stated by reviewers and there isn't any need for me to chatter on further - it is simply very good.
However....when the system arrived I set it up and all was very straightforward. Then I got to the automatic speaker set-up. This worked fine, but one speaker, the rear right, didn't. Strange for Panasonic equipment. All the connections were fine so I swapped the speaker round with the other rear speaker. This time the left speaker didn't work, so it was clearly a fault.
I contacted Amazon and used their return process, which ran very smoothly. The complete system needed to be returned. I was quite shaken because in the morning the original equipment was taken away from my house - in the afternoon the replacement equipment arrived. How's that for speed!
The replacement system was set up and it all worked perfectly. I use the iPod dock for my nano and the sound produced is very satisfactory.
I used to be concerned about ordering on the internet in case of problems. No problems here though, so well done Amazon. Nothing is perfect so I wouldn't normally give 5 stars, but for the Panasonic I'll give 4 1/2 and make it up to five for the service I received.
Great sound and pictures February 7, 2010 N. W. - Belper (Derbyshire, UK) Great system, blu-ray playback and sound quality are 1st class. Improves standard DVD quality to a better level, though can exhibit a touch of out-of-sync sound delay. Very simple to set up and, using sound system with TV playback, livens up otherwise boring broadcasts. Ipod playback is good; Digital photo playback is fantastic, just pop in SD card and select filmshow (the system intuitively focuses on the main part of images and slowly zooms into them - very smart!)
One small gripe - speaker cable is very thin and not too long either, so if you've a large room then you will need to extend the cable for rear spreakers. (Note: the speakers have fitted plugs to connect to the Blu-Ray player so beware of thinking you can simply upgrade the cable to one better suited to home cinema)
Follow your instincts...trust Panasonic and get one!
Delivery from Amazon very quick too!
Great Sound and Picture February 6, 2010 Brian Holmes I got this a couple of months ago and have been really pleased with it. It was a good price from Amazon and included a deal from Panasonic of seven free Blu-ray films. Sound quality is excellent and the picture quality with Blu-ray is very good, although I had hoped that fast motion would have been a bit smoother, but that could be the fault of our TV. Set up is really easy, although the lead for the microphone is a bit short. Some minor criticisms that don't really take the edge off the enjoyment of this system. It could do with a wider range of inputs - there is no co-axial digital sound input and just the two optical (SPDIF) connections. Also there is no HDMI input and it would benefit from a wider range of volume control on the sub-woofer - this only has four settings, and it usually only needs setting at 1 or 2 depending upon the source. Connecting an iPod is really easy, but the on-screen menu should be more like the Apple menu system as it is easy to hit the wrong button when selecting music.
